How Elon Musk Is Building a Novel Its Author Disowned
The concept. Charles Stross published Accelerando in 2005 under a Creative Commons licence, free to anyone. It lays out neural interfaces, planetary-scale computation, and human beings as a bootloader for whatever comes next. Two decades later that list reads as a description of what Elon Musk has spent his career building. Stross wrote it as horror. The third act, where people are rendered obsolete by their own creations, is missing from every roadmap.
How it was built. Public record on one side, the novel and everything Stross has written since on the other. Twelve places where the two line up were scored by three AI research systems working from the same material without seeing each other’s answers, then reconciled by median. The scores ship with the book, so you can argue with them.
Inside the book. Three positions, held apart. The map: a novel detailed enough to work as a blueprint. The builder: infrastructure matching the first two phases with high fidelity, and the third one absent. The defector: Stross himself, who now calls the singularity a religious fantasy and the AI industry a fraud.
Whether the missing third act is engineering confidence or a blind spot is left open. The overlaps stand on the public record, with no claim that Musk ever read the novel.
